HIGHLIGHTING EQUALITY AND JUSTICE

The apparel industry is a very ironic one. It is a $2.5 trillion-dollar industry that employs over 75 million people worldwide, most of them women. It is often perceived as 'a woman's world', yet female garment workers are suffering from the global western women's consumerism of clothing. This collection aims to literally HIGHLIGHT the gender inequalities within several different sectors. By looking at the women's movements and discovering the 1940s as a significant era with Wonder Woman appearing and empowering the housewives of the time to drop the brooms and get more active. Being inspired by this decade and the upcoming sports which were identified to be a key to freedom for many women even if that meant exercising with high heels and skirts as most sportswear was only made for men.  The music, the blooming energy, the styles, the upcoming new synthetic fibres for sports wear, the celebration of the female gender, inspired me and helped me adapt this topic to our current issues, where many still have to fight for equal pay, acceptance, freedom and education.
